Building a Future, Together: How Your Support Sustains Recovery in Loudoun County

Building a Future, Together

Recovery doesn’t begin and end in a treatment center. It happens slowly, every day, in small moments of courage, consistency, and community. It happens when someone takes the step to ask for help. It happens again when someone offers a meal, provides a listening ear, or opens the door to a safe place to sleep. At Loudoun Serenity House, we believe recovery is not just about stopping the use of substances—it’s about building a life that’s worth staying in.

That’s why our work doesn’t stop when treatment ends. In fact, it just begins.

We offer transitional recovery housing, peer support, and access to vital services that help people stabilize and heal—not just for a week or a month, but for the long haul. And none of it would be possible without the support of people like you.

A Holistic Approach to Healing

The first year of recovery is often the hardest. People who struggle with substance use disorder (SUD) may leave treatment without stable housing, a support system, or access to critical resources like food, healthcare, and employment. That’s where Loudoun Serenity House steps in.

Our Transitional Recovery Residences offer more than just a roof—they offer safety, structure, and dignity. Located in residential neighborhoods of Leesburg, VA, our homes provide up to 14 adults with affordable, high-quality housing and a supportive environment. Residents learn essential life skills, contribute to shared responsibilities, and begin to rebuild trust with themselves and others.

Inside our Recovery Community Center, individuals and families find free access to Certified Peer Support Specialists (cPRS), recovery group meetings, workshops, and guidance for navigating local services like Medicaid, SNAP, and employment support. Our Recovery Community Center welcomed more than 800 visitors last year, each one looking for connection, guidance, or simply a moment of grace in a world that often feels overwhelming.

Peer Support: The Heart of Recovery

Perhaps the most powerful part of our model is peer support. Every person who walks through our doors brings their own story. And often, what they need most is to know they’re not alone. Our Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (cPRS) and Peer Navigators offer that—by walking alongside our participants with empathy and lived experience.

They are individuals who have walked the path of recovery themselves. They understand relapse. They understand shame. They understand the complicated and courageous process of beginning again. And that understanding is a lifeline.

This peer-based mentorship not only helps prevent relapse—it restores a sense of belonging, which is one of the strongest indicators of long-term success in recovery.

A Ripple Effect of Hope

One of the most beautiful truths of recovery is that it multiplies. When one person finds stability and healing, their family, friends, workplace, and broader community benefit too.

The ripple effect is real—and it reaches far beyond any one person. That’s why your support matters so much. When you donate, volunteer, or advocate for our mission, you're not just helping someone in crisis. You’re helping entire communities move toward health, wholeness, and hope.

Our Vision Is Rooted in the Community

Our roots are here in Loudoun County. We were founded out of love and a commitment to change the way our community responds to Substance Abuse Disorder and recovery. Our founder, Melissa Hinton, started Loudoun Serenity House in memory of her sister Rachel—who lost her life to addiction before having the opportunity to experience long-term recovery housing.

That legacy lives on today through every participant who walks through our doors and is met with compassion, not judgment. Through every peer mentor who says, “I’ve been there too.” Through every community member who shows up to donate, deliver meals, or simply say, “I believe in you.”

And it continues through you—because everything we do, we do together.

Your Support Is Saving Lives

Your contributions help keep our residences open, our peer support programs staffed, and our community center running. You make it possible for someone to pick up the phone and hear a warm voice instead of a closed door. You help us offer Spanish-language support through our new Path to Purpose program. You allow us to extend dignity to people who are often overlooked.

And if you’re wondering if you’ve made an impact? You have.

Whether you gave during our recent Give Choose campaign, donated a meal, or simply shared our story with someone in need—thank you. You are part of the solution. You are part of the story of recovery.

What’s Next?

We invite you to stay connected. More events are coming, and we hope you’ll join us. We need your continued voice, presence, and partnership to keep building a recovery ecosystem that works—not just for some, but for all.
