Supporting Recovery Starts with Showing Up

A Community Moving Forward, Together

A Community Moving Forward, Together

At Loudoun Serenity House, we believe recovery is not just about surviving each day—it’s about reclaiming a life of meaning, purpose, and connection. May marks a season of energy, movement, and growth. And this season, our community is stepping up. With the Run for Recovery coming up on May 10, 2025, now is the time to lean in and support the everyday, courageous efforts of people walking through recovery.

Recovery is a process that unfolds daily, often slowly, and always bravely. It isn’t just about stopping substance use—it’s about gaining the tools, the community, and the clarity to rebuild a life of independence, health, and hope. This is the work we do every day at Loudoun Serenity House, and this is the work that your support makes possible.

Why Support Makes the Difference

When someone chooses recovery, what they’re really choosing is possibility. The possibility to live without fear. The possibility to reconnect with loved ones. The possibility to engage in work, community, and everyday life in a meaningful way. But possibility alone isn’t enough. Without supportive housing, peer guidance, and access to resources, those possibilities can fade under the weight of real-life challenges.

We often hear that recovery takes a village—and it’s true. That village includes transitional housing, mentors, job support, access to health and mental health care, transportation, and a recovery community. When people leave formal treatment without a stable place to live or someone to call when things get hard, relapse becomes much more likely. Our approach is to bridge that gap—providing structure, connection, and ongoing accountability.

What We Offer: Real Support, Real Impact

Our Transitional Recovery Residences offer more than a roof—they offer the chance to start again in an environment of dignity, accountability, and care. Serving up to 14 adults across two homes in Leesburg, VA, our residences are designed for people with at least 30 days of sobriety who have completed a treatment program. They are accredited by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR), meaning they meet high standards of safety, support, and management.

But housing is just one part of the equation. In June 2023, we opened the Loudoun Serenity House Recovery Community Center (RCC) right in downtown Leesburg. This free community space provides walk-in access to Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (cPRS), educational workshops, support groups, and resource navigation. In 2024 alone, we served over 800 individuals at the RCC—each one a person with a story, a goal, and a life worth rebuilding.

Peer Support: The Heart of Our Work

Peer Support: The Heart of Our Work

One of the most effective tools in long-term recovery is peer mentorship. Our team includes certified and intern Peer Recovery Specialists, all of whom bring lived experience and professional training to their roles. This one-on-one guidance is powerful because it comes from someone who’s been there—someone who understands the setbacks, the small wins, and the emotional journey of recovery.

Our newest program, Path to Purpose, takes this model even further. Funded by a SAMHSA grant and launched in early 2025, Path to Purpose provides targeted peer support, recovery planning, and personal advocacy services. It includes access to Spanish-speaking mentors and recognizes the unique needs of individuals navigating both cultural and linguistic barriers during recovery. It’s a bold, compassionate program—and your support is what brought it to life.

A Step Toward a Stronger Future

The Run for Recovery on May 10 isn’t just a 5K. It’s a community statement. It’s a show of solidarity. It’s a tangible way to let someone know: we believe in your future. Whether you join as a runner, walker, volunteer, or cheerleader, your participation makes an impact.

Funds raised from the event go directly to programs that create safe housing, connect people to services, and provide the steady presence of peer mentors. Each step you take helps make someone else’s next step possible.
